Farmer Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting 12-Year-Old Girl in Ogun

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, known as So-Safe Corps, has arrested a 42-year-old farmer, Ganiu Agbajo. He is accused of defiling a 12-year-old girl in the Ipokia Local Government Area.

The girl’s name is being kept secret to protect her privacy.

Adegunwa Adegbuyi, the agency’s Director of Information and Public Relations, shared this news in a statement on Thursday. He spoke on behalf of the Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo.

Adegbuyi explained that the arrest followed tips from worried residents about the alleged crime. The information reached the corps on Monday through the Director of Anti-Arms Smuggling, who was informed by community members.

The situation came to light when the girl returned home crying. Her mother asked her what was wrong. “The girl told her mother that a man had raped her,” the statement revealed.

After hearing this, the girl’s mother raised the alarm. Concerned community members then reported the case to the So-Safe Corps. The operatives quickly started working to find and arrest the suspect.

The statement noted that the suspect was arrested at his home in Hassan Compound, Igbokulu, Ita-Egbe, in Ipokia LGA. “During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to committing the act,” Ganzallo added.

According to the statement, Agbajo claimed the incident took place on a farm at Ojugo, Ita-Egbe, in the same area.

After the preliminary investigation, Adegbuyi said the suspect and the victim were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force. This is for further investigation and possible legal action.

Both the suspect and the girl were taken to the Idiroko Divisional Police Headquarters. “The suspect and the victim have been handed over to the Nigeria Police, Idiroko Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and legal action,” the statement said.

Ganzallo praised the community members for alerting the authorities. He also urged residents to report any suspected criminal activities without delay.

This incident is part of a worrying trend of sexual violence against minors happening across the country.
