The Ooni of Ife has been invited to Mujahid Dokubo-Asari's coronation in Rivers State. This visit aims to enhance cultural and economic ties.

The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has received an invitation to the coronation of Mujahid Dokubo-Asari. This event will take place on 19 December in Rivers State.
Mr Dokubo-Asari gave the invitation during a visit to Mr Ogunwusi at his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State. A statement from Sadiq Lawal, the director of media and public affairs at the palace, confirmed this.
During this visit, the two traditional rulers discussed ways to strengthen cultural, historical, and economic ties between Ile-Ife and Elem Kalabari.
“The visit provided an opportunity for the Kalabari monarch to formally invite the Ooni to the forthcoming Se Diye (Coronation) ceremony scheduled for December 19, 2026, in Buguma, Rivers State,” the statement noted.
Mr Dokubo-Asari, also known as Da Amakiri Tubo, mentioned that traditional institutions are vital for community development, resolving conflicts, and preserving cultural heritage.
He praised the Ooni’s leadership and commitment to peace and unity. He said the meeting was a chance to strengthen relationships among traditional rulers in Nigeria.

In response, Mr Ogunwusi welcomed the visit and the invitation. He highlighted that cooperation among traditional rulers can help promote national unity, peaceful living, and respect among Nigeria’s many cultures.
Mr Ogunwusi expressed his desire to build stronger cultural, historical, and economic connections between Ile-Ife and Elem Kalabari. He added that ongoing interactions between traditional institutions can help deepen the understanding of Nigeria’s diverse identities and shared heritage.
He also praised Mr Dokubo for the wisdom and maturity he has shown since becoming king. He said, “traditional leadership required courage, prudence, and commitment to the welfare of the people.”
As a gesture of goodwill, Mr Ogunwusi gifted Mr Dokubo a bronze artwork. He explained that this gift symbolizes the importance of the people to a leader.
