Oyo APC Candidate Promises Unity and Education Reforms

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State for the 2027 election, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, said on Monday that he is seeing positive results in his efforts to reconcile party members who are unhappy. He believes the APC will enter the next general election as a united group.

Alli, who represents Oyo South in the National Assembly, shared this during a program called A Day with BSA at the NUJ Press Centre in Iyaganku, Ibadan. He said bringing unity back to the party has become one of his top goals since he became the party’s candidate.

He explained that he is talking to party stakeholders across the state to achieve this goal. He said, “I’ve held meetings with aspirants, members of the G-6 bloc and other influential party leaders. President Bola Tinubu has also intervened by engaging former APC governorship candidate, Teslim Folarin, to facilitate reconciliation among aggrieved members.

“We have been making conscious efforts to unite the APC. I have met with candidates and spoken with members of the G-6. President Bola Tinubu has also engaged Senator Teslim Folarin and tasked him with reconciling all aggrieved members. We are already resolving the crisis, and I believe the party will emerge stronger and more united.”

Alli said his selection as the APC governorship candidate is just the start of a strong push to rebuild the party ahead of the 2027 governorship election. He urged members to work together for victory.

On education, Alli promised to improve public education by ensuring that class sizes in public primary and secondary schools do not exceed 30 pupils. He also promised to fix school buildings and provide free, functional, and quality education from primary to secondary school.

He stated, “We will return to 30 pupils per classroom because quality education begins with a conducive learning environment. We will upgrade facilities in all public primary and secondary schools and ensure that every child enjoys free, functional and quality education from primary to secondary level.”

The APC candidate also promised to boost technical and vocational education by setting up and enhancing technical colleges across the state. He wants to integrate practical skills training into tertiary institutions.

He said this plan will help young people gain employable skills, promote entrepreneurship, and reduce unemployment. “We must produce graduates with practical skills. Technical education will receive priority because it is critical to industrial growth and youth employment,” he added.

Alli also mentioned that his administration will stop relying on consultancy services in public schools. He believes teachers and educational institutions should be well-equipped and supported to do their jobs effectively.

On grassroots governance, he stated that local government councils must be allowed to work properly to help develop the state and improve services. “Our local governments must function effectively because development starts from the grassroots. Once local governments work efficiently, governance becomes more impactful,” he said.

Regarding security, the APC governorship candidate called for stronger neighbourhood watch programs and suggested that all residents in the state should be registered biometrically. He said having a complete database, including fingerprint records, will help security agencies fight crime.

“We need a comprehensive database of everyone living in Oyo. Every resident should be registered with biometric details, including fingerprints. This will significantly improve intelligence gathering and strengthen our security architecture,” he said.

Alli insisted that education, security, youth empowerment, and effective local government administration will be the main focus of his first 100 days in office if elected. He is confident that these reforms will help Oyo State grow and develop sustainably.
