PDP appoints Ogunbiyi as acting chairman in Lagos
Kayode Ogunbiyi has been named the acting chairman of the PDP in Lagos. His appointment follows the poor health of the current chairman, Muka Popoola.

The Peoples Democratic Party’s National Working Committee has named Kayode Ogunbiyi, the Lagos State Deputy Chairman, to act as the state chairman.
This decision is in a letter dated November 3, 2026. The letter was signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Umar Bature.
The letter, numbered PDP/NOS/GF1/Vol.1/009, is titled “Authorisation to Act as Acting Chairman.” It was sent to the deputy chairman of the party in Lagos.
Bature explained that this action is due to the poor health of the current chairman, Mr Muka Popoola. This information came from a report by NAN on Saturday.
“Due to the ill health of the substantive Chairman of Lagos State, Muka Popoola, the National Organising Secretary (NOS), on behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC), hereby authorises the State Deputy Chairman of the party to act as the chairman with effect from the date of this letter pending when a congress could be organised accordingly,” the letter stated.

Ogunbiyi’s appointment starts immediately from November 3. This will last until a party congress is held.
The National Organising Secretary also congratulated Ogunbiyi on his new role.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, this change puts Ogunbiyi in charge of the party’s activities in Lagos. He will oversee things until a congress is held to decide on the permanent leadership.
