The police in Osun State have confirmed the arrest of Adeniyi Adeyemi. He claimed to be the Director-General of the fake Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The Police Public Relations Officer, Biodun Ojelabi, a deputy superintendent of police, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday. He said Mr Adeyemi was caught on Tuesday at his hideout in Osun State. This was done by operatives from the Intelligence Response Team based in Abuja.

Mr Ojelabi mentioned that the state command did not take part in the operation. But he confirmed that the suspect is now in custody.

"We know that the person pretending to be the Director-General of the controversial PFIPC, Adeyemi, was arrested today in the state.

"The team that made the arrest came from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

"He was picked up in the early hours by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department's Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT)," he said.

Mr Adeyemi's arrest came after an order from Judge Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The judge directed his arrest after he did not show up for arraignment on charges of conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation.

The police spokesperson did not give more details about how the arrest happened.
