Police Arrest Father and Stepmother for Burning Girl’s Skin Over N100

The Kwara State Police have arrested a 12-year-old girl's father and stepmother. They are accused of torturing the girl, whose buttocks were burned with a hot coal pot over a missing N100.

The girl, named Misturah Babatunde, was also allegedly beaten with an electrical wire after losing the money while selling soya beans, known locally as "beske," for her stepmother.

Police Commissioner Ojo Adekimi shared this information with reporters in Ilorin on Tuesday.

According to the police, the incident came to light on September 30, 2026. A concerned resident in the Idigba area of Adewole, Ilorin, saw the girl buying GV solution from a chemist at around 9:26 PM.

The resident became suspicious and asked the girl why she was outside at that time. This led to the discovery of the alleged abuse, as the girl explained how she was punished for the missing money.

"The girl disclosed that she had been beaten with an electrical wire and that her buttocks had been burnt with a hot coal-pot," the police said.

The suspects are Babatunde Mustapha, the girl's biological father; Abdulrahman Aisat, her stepmother; and Bashirat Abdulfatai, their neighbor.

The police reported that the electrical wire used in the assault and the hot coal pot used to cause the burns were taken as evidence in the case.

The police received the report and transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department on October 9, 2026. It was then sent to the Anti-Human Trafficking, Women and Children Protection Unit for thorough investigation.

The three suspects have been charged in court and are currently held at the Oke-Kura Correctional Facility.
