Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have caught a suspected member of a robbery gang from Lagos. He was arrested while trying to rob in the Ibafo area of Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, shared this news during a chat with PUNCH Metro on Thursday.
Babaseyi said the suspect was nabbed after a quick response from the Divisional Police Officer of Ibafo Division. This came after a distress call about an armed robbery in the Maba/Asese area near Ibafo.
According to Babaseyi, the DPO got the distress call around 1:25 a.m. on May 30, 2026. The call reported that armed robbers were attacking residents.
He explained that the DPO quickly sent out patrol and anti-crime teams to the scene.
“When the operatives arrived, the suspects ran into a nearby bush. After a hot chase, one Ganiyu Adesegun, a 21-year-old man, was arrested,” he said.
Babaseyi mentioned that a search on the suspect found two live cartridges. He added that during questioning, the suspect admitted that his gang had four members who came from Lagos to rob.
He said, “A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of two live cartridges. During interrogation, he confessed that the gang comprised four members who had travelled from Lagos to perpetrate the robbery.”
Babaseyi stated that police are still working to catch the other members of the gang who escaped. He said the suspect has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, in Abeokuta for deeper investigation and possible prosecution.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department Eleweran, after preliminary investigation,” Babaseyi concluded.
This arrest is part of the police's ongoing fight against cross-border crime between Lagos and Ogun States.
