The Adamawa State Police have arrested a 27-year-old man over the murder of a woman at a hotel in Girei Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Saturday, the police spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the incident took place at No Vex Hotel, Girei, on Friday.
"Following a report of a fight at No Vex Hotel, Girei LGA, on 14th August 2026, officers from Girei Divisional Police Headquarters quickly went to the scene.
The victim was found badly hurt and lying in a pool of blood. She was taken to a medical facility where the doctor confirmed she was dead," the statement said.
The police identified the suspect as Ali Haruna from Bolori Ward, Maiduguri, Borno State. He was arrested for his role in the incident.
"Initial investigation showed that the suspect allegedly admitted to the crime. The police are, however, treating this as part of their ongoing investigation to find out what happened and why," the statement added.
The police also mentioned that the knife believed to have been used in the stabbing was taken from the suspect and would be used as evidence.
The Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, has instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department to handle the case and ensure a careful and thorough investigation.
The police assured the public that anyone found guilty would face serious consequences. They also urged people to stay calm, avoid sharing unverified news, and not take the law into their own hands while the police finish their work.
When Weekend Punch visited the hotel on Saturday, an eyewitness reported that the suspect checked into the hotel, owned by a retired police officer, on Friday afternoon and allegedly killed the woman around 5pm the same day.
The eyewitness further claimed that the suspect said the woman was the third person he had killed this year.
