The Oyo State Police Command said it arrested a suspect with a homemade pistol and some illegal drugs on Oshuntokun Avenue, Bodija, in Ibadan North Local Government Area on Monday.
Adewale Osifeso, the state Police Public Relations Officer, shared this in a statement from Ibadan. He said the arrest happened during a stop-and-search operation.
The incident took place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, around 9:30 PM. Police stopped three men on a Bajaj motorcycle with the registration number DTN 678 QA.
Osifeso stated, "The Oyo State Police Command has recorded another operational breakthrough in its sustained efforts to curb criminal activities and the proliferation of illegal firearms across the state."
He continued, "On Saturday, July 11, 2026, at about 9:30 PM, operatives attached to Bodija Housing Police Division, while conducting an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along Oshuntokun Avenue, Bodija, Ibadan, intercepted three male occupants of a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number DTN 678 QA."
During the search, one suspect threw a small bag into a nearby drain. The other two suspects fled with the motorcycle. The police arrested the third suspect, Hammed Lateef.
When the police searched the discarded bag, they found one homemade pistol, one live cartridge, sachets of what they think is Tramadol, and a passport photo believed to belong to one of the men who ran away.
The investigation continues, and the police are working hard to find and catch the two suspects who escaped.
The state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, assured residents that the police are committed to proactive and intelligence-led policing. He urged the public to keep sharing timely and trustworthy information with the police.
