The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected ritualists. They were caught with an item believed to be a human skull in Ijio, Iwajowa Local Government Area.
The arrest happened during a joint operation with the Oyo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun.
DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the spokesperson for the command, shared this news in a statement on Thursday.
The operation started after the police got reliable information about a suspect who was allegedly in possession of a human skull.
Olayinka mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, ordered the joint operation. This led to the arrest of Shittu Isah from Kajola Area in Ijio.
The suspected human skull was taken during the operation and is now with the police as evidence.
"During questioning, Shittu Isah admitted to taking the suspected human skull from a Muslim burial ground in Ijio.
"He also said he did not act alone, which led to the arrest of Tunde Ajibade. Tunde is now helping the police with their ongoing investigation," the statement said.
The police said they have kept the skull safe for forensic tests to check what it really is.
They also mentioned that investigators are trying to find out more about what happened, why it happened, and if there are other people involved.
Olayinka promised that the command is serious about protecting lives and property. They will ensure that anyone found guilty is punished.
He called on residents to keep giving security agencies useful information. This will help in preventing and fighting crime in the state.
The command reminded the public to report emergencies using their toll-free response line.
