The Abia State Police have arrested two suspects for vandalising and stealing government property along the Umuahia-Uzuakoli Road.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, shared this in a statement on Tuesday. She named the suspects as 23-year-old Emmanuel Ogonna and 25-year-old Ifeanychukwu Oko. Both are from Lohom, Uzuakoli, in Bende Local Government Area.

The statement detailed that police recovered several items from the suspects. These include 49 pieces of angle irons, two saws, three spanners, three small iron boards, and 86 electrical poles.

The police arrested the suspects based on useful information received. The statement explained, "Using actionable intelligence, operatives from the Mike Okiro Divisional Police Headquarters, along Uzuakoli Road on 19/06/2026, conducted a stop-and-search operation. They caught the suspects in an auto-rickshaw (Keke Napep) and seized the items, which are believed to have been vandalised and stolen."

The suspects confessed to their involvement in the vandalism and theft of the recovered items. The case has now been sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and proper prosecution.

Abia's Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, emphasised the command's dedication to preventing and detecting crime. He called on the public to help security agencies by reporting any suspicious people or activities to the nearest police station.
