The Cross River State Police have arrested a 37-year-old security guard named Ndifreke Godwin for allegedly sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl in Calabar, the state capital.
ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, shared a statement with journalists on Sunday. He confirmed that the incident took place along Tinapa Road in Calabar, Cross River State.
The statement said, "The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old male security guard, identified as Ndifreke Godwin, in connection with the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl along Tinapa Road, Calabar."
Eitokpah mentioned that early investigations showed the suspect allegedly lured the girl to his home with the promise of money, where he reportedly assaulted her. The case was reported to the police by the girl's mother on Friday, August 29, 2026.
"The incident was reported to the Police on 29 August 2026 by the victim’s mother, following which the suspect was promptly arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly lured the minor to his residence under the pretext of giving her money, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her," part of the statement said.
The police acted quickly, arrested the suspect, and moved the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. Eitokpah noted that the victim received a medical form for examination and treatment, and a thorough investigation is ongoing.
The police spokesperson assured the public that they will follow due process. He stressed that the right legal actions will be taken based on what the investigation finds.
"The Command assures the public that the suspect will be accorded due process and that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation," the statement said.
The police also advised parents and guardians to stay alert and report any unusual activity involving children to security agencies.
