The Bayelsa State Police Command is looking into the death of a 40-year-old phone repairer named Felix. His body was discovered in a guest house in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.
Reports say Felix, who was from Cross River State, checked into Diko Guest House on Azikoro Road in the Ekeki area of Yenagoa with a woman on Wednesday night.
A cleaner found his naked body in the room on Thursday morning and raised the alarm.
The woman was not there when the body was found. This incident attracted many traders and residents to the nearby Seriake Dickson Shopping Complex, where Felix had a phone repair shop.
Eyewitnesses told our reporter that they found sachets of alcoholic drinks on a table beside the bed in the room before the police took the body away.
A trader from the shopping complex, who wanted to stay anonymous, said, "We were shocked when we heard that Felix had died in the hotel. He left with a woman, but only his body was found in the room the next morning."
The police have taken the guest house owner and the cleaner who found the body into custody for questioning. Dennis, Felix’s younger brother, was also briefly held after he was found with Felix’s mobile phone. He was released after explaining that a Pay Charge operator gave him the phone when Felix could not be reached.
The spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, DSP Musa Mohammed, confirmed the situation. He said that preliminary investigations have started.
"We have started a preliminary investigation into the incident," the police spokesman said.
He noted that the investigators are trying to find out how Felix died and to identify the woman who checked into the guest house with him.
The police have not yet determined the cause of death, and no official results, including autopsy findings, have been released. Investigations are still ongoing.
