Police kill two kidnappers and save truck driver in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has reported that its Anti-Kidnapping Unit killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted truck driver during a special operation in the state.

The police also recovered two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of live ammunition, two mobile phones, and N2 million believed to be from criminal activities during this operation.

This information came from a statement released on Sunday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of Ogun State, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi.

Opeyemi mentioned that the rescued truck driver was kidnapped on August 25, 2026, around 11:10 PM in the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.

He explained that once the police got the report, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit quickly moved to secure the victim's release and capture the kidnappers.

Opeyemi said, "Determined to ensure that the perpetrators did not evade justice, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit working on actionable intelligence stormed the kidnappers’ hideout located along the Papalanto, Ilaro Road. In the process, two suspected kidnappers were neutralized, while other gang members fled the scene with different degrees of gunshot injuries."

He added, "A search conducted at the hideout led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, twenty-five rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, two cell phones, and a cash sum of Two Million Naira (₦2,000,000), reasonably suspected to be part of the proceeds of criminal activities."

Opeyemi also stated that the bodies of the killed kidnappers have been taken to the morgue for autopsy. He mentioned that the Command is working hard to track down and capture the gang members who escaped.

In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the bravery and professionalism of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad. He said this success shows the command's determination to chase down kidnappers and violent criminals wherever they may hide.

The Commissioner reassured residents that Ogun State will remain a tough place for criminals. He promised that the police would continue to use intelligence-led policing, strong tactical operations, and work with communities to keep people safe.
