The Ogun State Police have arrested 23 foreigners in a residential building linked to a Ponzi scheme and a visa scam in Ota.

This was revealed in a statement by the police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Monday in Abeokuta.

Babaseyi said the suspects were caught on August 4 around 11am by officers from the Atan-Ota Division of the police.

"The raid followed credible information received by the police about suspected fraudulent activities at the location.

"The police moved quickly, secured the area, and arrested the suspects for further investigation.

"Twenty-three foreign nationals were arrested for alleged Ponzi scheme, visa scam, and other immigration-related offences.

"After an initial investigation, 21 of the suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service on August 5 for further investigation and necessary action," he said.

The spokesperson mentioned that two suspects remain with the police for prosecution related to Obtaining by False Pretence (OBT) and other offences, pending the end of the investigation.

Babaseyi added that the investigation is still ongoing to find out more details about the alleged fraud and to identify any other people involved in the scheme.
