The police caught him around 2am on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Kajola, Elega, Abeokuta. This followed information from a community leader and careful watching by the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit of the police.

A statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that the arrest was made during a well-planned operation based on intelligence.

The police found several items with the suspect. These included a military face cap, a pair of three-quarter military trousers, and four pictures of him dressed in military uniform.

The police mentioned that this arrest is part of their ongoing work to stop impersonation and other crimes in the state. Babaseyi said, "The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Akinola Damilare, popularly known as General Don, for impersonating military personnel in Abeokuta, the state capital."
