The Abia State Police Command has arrested a father and three others. They are accused of trying to sell his 16-month-old daughter for money.

The police operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gender Unit, made the arrests at a hotel in Obi, Obingwa Local Government Area on September 7, 2026.

Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, shared this news on Friday. He spoke to journalists about the command’s achievements since he took over on August 10.

Afolabi explained that the “suspects had been transferred from the Central Police Station, Umuahia, due to allegations of conspiracy and child trafficking.”

He said that “preliminary investigation established that the child was the biological daughter of one of the suspects.”

Further investigations showed that the plan to traffic the child was driven by a desire to make money. The child has been rescued and is now in the care of the Ministry of Women Affairs.

The four suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue.
