The Bauchi State Police have arrested a suspected railway vandal named Abubakar Sanusi. They also recovered some stolen railway slippers in the Doya Quarters area of Bauchi city.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, shared this information in a statement on Wednesday. He mentioned that this was a big win for the police in their fight against vandalism of public properties.
The police got good information about the vandalism of railway properties in the state capital on August 17, 2026, around 12:30 AM. According to Habib, officers from the ‘A’ Division Township acted quickly and traced the stolen railway materials to a house in Doya Quarters.
He said the recovery of the items was unexpected. They thought the stolen goods would be hidden in a warehouse or a government building.
“Consequently, the entire consignment of vandalised railway slippers was recovered and evacuated to the station. The operation was concluded at about 0330hrs on 18th August 2026 with the arrest of a male suspect, Abubakar Sanusi, in connection with the crime,” he stated.
The PPRO also mentioned that the investigation is still ongoing. They want to identify and catch other members of the group involved in this crime.
Habib quoted the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu. He said the command is serious about protecting important national assets and infrastructure.
Aliyu warned that anyone caught vandalising or destroying government property will be arrested and face legal action.
The police also asked the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. This will help in protecting national assets.
