The Katsina Police Command has stopped two kidnapping and cattle rustling attempts in Kankia and Charanchi Local Government Areas. They rescued two women who had been kidnapped, and they are safe.
Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, shared this news in a statement on Monday in Katsina.
He said the first incident happened on Saturday at around 11:45 a.m. Armed bandits on three motorcycles attacked Jauga settlement in Sabon Gida Village, Kankia LGA, and took two women.
Mr Sadiq-Aliyu mentioned that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kankia quickly sent officers to the scene after getting a distress call. The officers engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to run into a nearby bush with possible gunshot wounds, leaving the victims behind.
The rescued women are 20-year-old Rukayya Yahaya and 22-year-old Sahura Abdulhadi, both from the community.
On Monday, the police also stopped a cattle-rustling attack in Majen Waya Village, Charanchi LGA. This incident took place around 10 a.m. when armed bandits invaded the village to steal cattle.
Mr Sadiq-Aliyu explained that the DPO in Charanchi quickly sent an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol team to confront the attackers. The bandits faced the officers' stronger firepower and ran into the bush with suspected bullet wounds.
He noted, “No life was lost, and no cattle were stolen during the operation. The area is now safe, and we are carrying out aggressive patrols.”
The police are working hard to find and arrest the fleeing suspects. Mr Sadiq-Aliyu stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Umar-Fage, praised the bravery and quick action of the officers.
The commissioner also said the command is dedicated to protecting lives and property in the state. He urged residents to keep supporting the police by giving timely and reliable information to help improve security and ensure quick responses to crime.
