Police Save Abandoned Baby in Abuja
The police in Abuja rescued a newborn baby boy found in a nylon bag. He is in critical condition and receiving medical care as authorities search for his mother.
The police in the Federal Capital Territory have rescued a newborn baby boy. He was found wrapped in a nylon bag in Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
The baby was rescued on Monday, November 2, 2026. He was in critical condition and taken to the hospital for medical help, according to the police.
SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer, shared this in a video on Facebook on Tuesday. She asked residents to provide any information that could help find the baby's mother.
Adeh noted that the newborn had bruises on his hand and arm. The police are working to ensure he receives the medical care he needs.
"We picked this baby in a very bad condition. This baby is a baby boy. The baby boy was abandoned, wrapped in a nylon bag, and he was badly injured," she said.
The police spokesperson said that after treatment, the baby will be handed over to social welfare officials for further care. She urged people in Bwari to report any information about the baby's mother to the nearest police station. They can also contact the FCT Police Command’s Gender Officer at 08036259662.

Adeh also asked the public to share information about any woman who was recently pregnant but is no longer seen with a newborn.
She addressed women facing unwanted pregnancies and asked them to seek help from social welfare offices or the nearest police station. She said this is better than abandoning their babies.
"If you don’t want the baby, you can walk into the social welfare office or any nearest police station and we will assist you. Instead of abandoning these children, come to us and we will help you," she said.
The police spokesperson added that there are people willing to care for children. She encouraged mothers in tough situations to reach out for help instead of putting newborns in danger.
