Man arrested for threatening neighbor with gun in Cross River

The Cross River State Police have arrested a 32-year-old man named Akan Constant for having a gun without permission. They found a locally made gun and two live cartridges in Alok Community, Ikom Local Government Area.

A community leader complained about Akan on October 26, 2026. He claimed that Akan threatened to kill his neighbor during an argument.

The police said Akan took out a gun during the fight but ran away with it when he was confronted.

In a statement on Monday, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, said officers from the Ikom Police Division went to the community after they received the report and arrested Akan.

The statement said, "The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a suspect for alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and recovered a locally made gun alongside two live cartridges in Alok Community, Ikom Local Government Area of the state."

It continued, "The arrest followed a report received on 26th October 2026 from a concerned community leader, who reported that one Akan Constant 'M', 32, a resident of Alok Community, allegedly brought out a firearm during a disagreement with his neighbour and threatened to kill him. The suspect reportedly fled with the firearm when confronted over his alleged conduct."

The police also mentioned that they recovered the locally made gun and two live cartridges during the operation.

ASP Eitokpah said Akan is in custody now. The recovered gun and ammunition are registered as evidence.

He added that the investigation is ongoing to find out all the details of what happened and to decide what legal action to take.

Part of the statement said, "The suspect is currently in police custody, while the recovered firearm and ammunition have been registered as exhibits. Investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate legal action."

The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, stressed that the command is serious about dealing with illegal firearms and other activities that can harm public safety.

He advised residents not to use violence or threats to solve personal issues. Instead, he urged them to resolve disputes in a lawful way.

The police commissioner also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities and to share information about illegal guns in their communities.
