Soldiers rescue retired general's wife just hours after she was kidnapped

Troops from the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army have rescued Mrs Adonkie, the wife of retired Brig. Gen. Basil Adonkie. She was taken from her home in Abuja just hours before the rescue.

The Brigade shared this news in a report sent to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday.

The report mentioned that Mrs Adonkie was taken around 10:30 PM on September 1. This led to the quick action of deploying troops to chase the kidnappers.

The report stated, "troops from the Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison moved through ACO Estate and Gosa Community, making contact with the kidnappers."

The soldiers successfully rescued her near Angwan-Sabo Village. Meanwhile, another group of troops continued to chase the kidnappers who were trying to escape.

At about 11:09 AM on Wednesday, troops from the 176 Guards Battalion and 197 Special Forces Battalion stopped two suspects who were running away near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council.

The troops found an AK-47 rifle and a magazine with 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition with the suspects.

The guards brigade reported that Mrs Adonkie was back with her family, while the two suspects were still in custody for background checks.

The report also mentioned that efforts were ongoing to find and catch other members of the kidnap gang.

The troops have stepped up their operations in the area to track down the fleeing criminals. They added that the soldiers' morale and fighting spirit remained high.
