Tinubu Sends Condolences to Niger's Military Leader Over Father's Death
President Bola Tinubu sends heartfelt condolences to Niger's military leader after the passing of his father, highlighting a legacy of faith and integrity.

President Bola Tinubu has sent his condolences to Niger Republic’s military leader, Abdourahamane Tiani, after the death of his father, Elhadji Hassane.
Mr Hassane passed away on Thursday, 5 November, at the age of 110.
In a condolence message released by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Mr Tinubu stated that the Nigerian government and its people stand with Niger during this sad time.
“The passing of a father brings a profound and deeply personal grief,” the president said. He encouraged General Tiani to find comfort in his father's influence on others and his remarkable long life.
Mr Tinubu noted that the deceased left a legacy of faith, honour, and integrity.
“In this moment of mourning, I pray that you will find solace in the enduring legacy of faith, honour, and integrity that your father leaves behind, and in the knowledge that his long and fulfilled life was a blessing to all who knew him,” he added.

The president also mentioned that Nigeria stands with Mr Tiani and the people of Niger during this difficult time.
He prayed that Almighty Allah would grant the deceased “Al-Jannah Firdaus” and comfort his grieving family and friends.
This condolence message comes at a time when diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Niger are tense. This follows the July 2023 military coup that removed Niger’s civilian government and the withdrawal of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in January 2025.
Niger’s military leader has accused Nigeria of working with France to create instability in his country. He claims that Abuja is helping to set up terrorist bases in its north-western and north-eastern areas. Nigeria has consistently called these claims baseless and has reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace and security.
