Trump promises $5,000 to every American if Republicans win midterm elections

US President Donald Trump has promised to give every adult citizen in the US $5,000 if Republicans keep control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections.

He made this announcement at the party’s convention on Wednesday. This comes during a US presidential term and just ahead of the midterms, which are set for November 3.

The plan will cost more than $1 trillion and has raised questions about its ethics. Mr Trump’s idea is meant to encourage US citizens to vote for Republicans by offering them a direct financial reward if his party wins.

His statement also showed that Republicans are worried about their chances in the upcoming November elections.

“If the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000,” he told the crowd of supporters at the convention.

“There is a crazy little sick cloud over our country. We will defeat communism in America,” he added.

He also told them to “pretend that I’m on the ballot” even though he is becoming less popular among Americans. Reports show his approval rating is around 38 percent.

The Guardian reported that many Republican candidates stayed away from the two-day convention because of Mr Trump’s unpopularity. This is partly due to anger over inflation and high prices for everyday goods and gas. These issues are linked to the trade war with China and Canada. There are also worries about the ongoing US war with Iran.

In his long speech, Mr Trump also talked about the war. He claimed he needed to start it because Iran was “two, maybe three weeks away from having a nuclear weapon.” The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has already said this claim is false.

Mr Trump spent a lot of time in his speech warning about what could happen if Democrats win.

“If we lose, you’re going to lose your border, you’re going to lose your tax cuts, you’re going to lose your safety and security, you’re going to lose your wealth. Our country is going through hell, we will be going through hell, just like we did, just two years ago,” he said.

“If we hand America’s future to the radical-left Democrats, our nation will spend the next decade just getting back on its feet. Vote Republican, and we will leave the world in our dust for generations to come.”
