New Leadership Takes Over ACF in Kano After Chairman Resigns

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in Kano State has set up a three-member interim leadership team. This follows the resignation of its chairman, Goni Umar.

The ACF spokesperson in Kano, Nasiru Ibrahim, shared in a statement to PREMIUM TIMES that the new team includes Isyaku Tofa, Bala Sani, and Rabia Adamu.

Haliru Akilu announced the appointments during a meeting on Saturday. This meeting included members from the ACF Board of Trustees in Kano and the chapter's executive committee. It took place at the Late Amina Habib ACF Secretariat in Kano.

Mr Akilu, a retired army general, explained that the interim team will manage the chapter until a new chairman is elected. He said this decision aims to restore peace, promote understanding, and encourage cooperation among members after some disagreements.

He urged members to put aside their problems and work together for the forum's benefit. He stressed that the meeting's goal was to settle current issues and not to bring back old disputes.

"The spirit that should guide every one of us is the same: consultation before decision, integrity before convenience and service before self," Mr Akilu said.

He called for patience, humility, and open talks among members. He added that every idea should help the chapter find lasting solutions to its problems.

Mr Akilu also acknowledged receiving Mr Umar's resignation letter, which said his busy schedule led to his decision.

He thanked Mr Umar for his service to the chapter, commending his time, energy, and commitment. He wished him well in his other duties and hoped he would continue to provide support and advice.

Mr Akilu also praised Assistant Controller-General of Narcotics Abubakar Ahmed. Mr Ahmed acted as chairman for about four months while Mr Umar was away.

Mr Akilu recognized Mr Ahmed’s dedication and contributions, noting that his efforts helped keep the chapter active during that time.

In their remarks, the three new interim leaders thanked everyone for their trust. They promised to work hard to meet expectations through devoted service.

Mr Akilu concluded by saying that a united ACF Kano Chapter would be better equipped to help develop Kano State and northern Nigeria. He highlighted the importance of addressing issues like insecurity, poverty, education, youth empowerment, and peaceful coexistence.
