Kano Hisbah Chief Says He Won't Back Any Politician in 2027 Elections

The Commandant-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Aminu Daurawa, says he will not support any politician in the 2027 general elections.

Mr Daurawa shared his decision in a post on his Facebook page on Saturday.

The Islamic cleric's statement comes after he faced criticism for being part of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign advisory committee in Kano.

Reports say Mr Daurawa and Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, who used to chair the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), are members of this committee.

Their involvement has raised concerns about religious leaders getting too close to politics.

In his post written in Hausa, Mr Daurawa made it clear that he is not part of politics. He said, "I am not a politician, and I will not campaign for anyone."

He added, "I hope that whoever will be just, compassionate to the poor, defend their rights and work to ease the affairs of their lives be granted victory by Allah."

Mr Daurawa also prayed, "May Allah grant us leaders who are truthful, trustworthy and God-fearing, who will put the interest of the people above their personal interests."

Even though Mr Daurawa said he won't campaign for anyone, he has not spoken directly about being on the APC advisory committee. He also did not comment on his role under the APC-led government of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
