Two Men Arrested for Killing Married Woman in Anambra

The police in Anambra State have arrested two men for the murder of a 33-year-old married woman in Oraifite, Njikoka Local Government Area.

The suspects are Thankgod Ikwugwara, 26, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson in Anambra, shared this information in a statement on Wednesday.

This comes just days after another man, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, was accused of killing his 23-year-old girlfriend and burying her in the same state.

In this latest case, Mr Ikenga, a superintendent of police, said the victim's mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Police Headquarters on 13 March.

The next day, the body was found inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite.

“After the case was sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for a detailed investigation, our police operatives used intelligence and digital forensic leads to eventually arrest the two suspects on 6th June 2026,” he said.

Mr Ikenga mentioned that both suspects admitted to killing the woman during questioning.

The prime suspect, Mr Ikwugwara, claimed he was in a romantic relationship with the victim for about three years, but he did not know she was married.

He also said he had a fight with her husband and later developed a strange illness that affected his sight.

The suspect claimed that out of anger, he planned the attack by inviting the woman to his place for medical help.

“Once she arrived, he (Ikwugwara) and the second suspect allegedly attacked her with a machete, leading to her death.

“Afterward, they dumped her body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite early the next day,” the police stated.

Mr Ikenga said the suspects will face murder charges in court once the investigation is finished.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the police operatives for their hard work and professionalism in solving the case after three months.

Mr Orutugu assured that the police in Anambra State are committed to bringing justice for the murdered woman.
