The Anambra State Police have arrested two men for the murder of a 33-year-old woman. They allegedly dumped her body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.

Reports say the suspects killed the woman on March 13. They lured her to their home, pretending they needed help.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman, shared this information in a statement on Wednesday.

Ikenga mentioned that police operatives made the arrests after gathering intelligence and using digital forensic evidence.

The investigation started on March 13, 2026, when the woman’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters.

The statement included, “The Anambra State Police Command has successfully uncovered the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and murder of a 33-year-old woman and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime in Oraifite.”

The suspects are both males: Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, 26 years old, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20 years old.

The case began on March 13, 2026, when the mother reported her daughter missing. The next day, March 14, 2026, an unidentified woman’s body was found in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite. The woman’s father later recognized the body as that of his missing daughter.

After the case was handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka, detectives worked hard to gather evidence. They arrested the two suspects on June 6, 2026.

Ikenga said that during questioning, Ikwugwara, the main suspect, admitted to the murder.

He claimed he had been in a relationship with the woman for about three years and didn’t know she was married.

Ikwugwara also said that after an argument with her husband, he developed an illness that affected his sight. Out of anger, he planned the attack.

He confessed that on March 13, 2026, he tricked the woman into coming to his house, saying he needed help because of his illness.

When she arrived, he and the second suspect attacked her with a machete, killing her. They then hid her body in the culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in the early hours of the next day.

Both suspects have admitted their roles in the crime and will face charges in court once investigations are complete.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the detectives for their hard work and commitment to bringing justice for crime victims.
