The US launched more strikes on Iran on Saturday night. This came after confirming that two American soldiers died in Iranian attacks on a US base in Jordan.
This marked the eighth night in a row that the US has struck Iran, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
CENTCOM announced on X that these strikes were meant to weaken Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
They added that the strikes focused on Iranian military coastal surveillance, air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and places where missiles and drones are stored.
Al Jazeera reported that Iranian media said the attacks began early on Sunday. They hit Sirik at 1:30am local time and Qeshm Island at about 3:38am. Another strike occurred at 6:10am.
Iranian media also said that the US targeted a location near Shadegan in Khuzestan province at 5:55am.
In response, Iran aimed at US assets at two bases in Kuwait. Iran's military said they targeted a US ammunition depot at Al-Adiri camp and the radar systems at the Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait.
PREMIUM TIMES reported that the latest strikes came just hours after CENTCOM confirmed the deaths of two American soldiers in the Iranian attack in Jordan. One soldier is still missing, and four others were injured in that attack.
President Donald Trump called the soldiers' deaths "a very sad thing." He said, "We hate to see it happen. It’s in service to our country."
Meanwhile, Iranian commander Ali Abdullahi warned that their armed forces would respond strongly to any aggression from the US. Iran's supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, issued a warning of "unforgettable lessons" if the US kept attacking Iran.
This threat came just hours before the latest US strikes began. Khamenei accused the US of breaking agreements with Tehran and said Trump's signature is "worthless and invalid."
The conflict, which started over the Strait of Hormuz, has now shifted to civilian targets. This paper reported that US strikes have damaged several civilian facilities, including bridges and water and power supplies.
The strikes began after Trump threatened to attack Iran’s civilian infrastructure if there is no deal by next week. Attacks on desalination pumps in Bunji village cut water supply to about 10,000 people in 20 villages.
At least three people died in the attack on Hormozgan province on Friday. The Iranian Health Ministry also reported that over 50 people have died and more than 500 have been injured due to US strikes on Iran since July 6.
In retaliation, Iran fired strikes into Kuwait that started a fire in a power and water desalination plant.
