The US carried out more strikes on Iran on Saturday night. This happened just hours after the US confirmed that two American soldiers died in Iranian attacks on a US base in Jordan.
These Saturday night strikes were the eighth night in a row that the US has targeted Iran, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
CENTCOM shared on X that the strikes aimed to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
They later revealed that the strikes focused on Iranian military coastal surveillance, air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and sites for storing missiles and drones.
Al Jazeera reported that Iranian media claimed the attacks occurred early on Sunday. They said Sirik was hit at 1:30 am local time (22:00 GMT, Saturday), Qeshm Island at about 3:38 am (00:08 GMT, Sunday), and again at 6:10 am local time (02:40 GMT).
Tasnim news agency added that the US military also targeted a spot near Shadegan in Iran’s Khuzestan province at 5:55 am (02:25 GMT Sunday).
In reaction to the US strikes, Iran targeted US assets at two bases in Kuwait.
Iran’s military announced it hit a US ammunition depot at Al-Adiri camp and the Patriot radar and air radar at the Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait.
The strikes came shortly after CENTCOM confirmed the deaths of the two American soldiers in the attack on the base in Jordan. One soldier is still missing, and four others were hurt in the incident.
