Utomi: APC is Taking Nigeria Backwards, Voters Must Act

Political economist and ex-presidential candidate, Prof. Pat Utomi, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of taking Nigeria backwards. He says the country’s economic decline has made it harder for people to buy basic goods.

Utomi shared his views in a post on his X handle on Wednesday. He explained the difference between economic stagnation and regression, claiming Nigeria is facing regression under the APC government.

To explain, he compared it to a car. He said if someone could buy a 2006 model in 2016, they should still be able to buy a 2016 model in 2026, assuming their money situation is the same.

He argued that if that person cannot even afford the 2006 model in 2026, it shows regression. Utomi said, “There is a difference between a country that has stopped moving forward and one that is actively moving backwards. The first is stagnation, the second is regression. Sadly, Nigeria, under the APC, has become an example of the latter.”

The economist believes Nigeria’s economic situation has worsened so much that people are losing the purchasing power they once had. He said, “We are not simply standing still; we are losing ground, watching yesterday’s modest comforts become today’s luxuries.”

Despite the grim picture, Utomi said the situation can change. He urged Nigerians to use their votes to shift the country’s direction. He sees voting out leaders he calls incompetent and corrupt as a national duty, not just a political choice.

He stated, “Bad leadership is not a life sentence. We have the power to change our country’s direction, and that power lies in our votes.” He emphasized that Nigerians need to stop supporting leaders whose actions are damaging the country.

“If we want to save Nigeria, we must stop rewarding those destroying it,” he said.
