Why Tinubu is likely to win in 2027, Accord Party candidate

The Accord Party’s presidential candidate and National Chairman, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, says President Bola Tinubu has a strong chance to win the 2027 presidential election. He believes this is due to Tinubu’s reforms, leadership, and growing support across the country.

Imumolen shared this information at a news conference in Lagos on Friday. During the event, he announced his withdrawal from the 2027 presidential race and endorsed Tinubu for a second term.

He explained that this decision came after discussions with the party’s leadership and members.

Imumolen emphasized that the national interest should come first above personal goals and party politics.

He stated that Tinubu’s re-election is certain because Nigerians are starting to see the long-term benefits of the administration’s reforms, even with current economic challenges.

“Tinubu will win because of his people-oriented programmes and the massive support he has received from different parts of the country.

“There is focus. Let us forget about the challenges of inflation and security. There must be progress.

“If another person comes in 2027, he will have to start all over again.

“There must be continuity. He has identified the challenges, and we need to move from where we are to the next phase. That is why we are supporting him, and he will win. My support is total,” Imumolen said.

He mentioned that the President’s reform agenda matches his own plans, particularly in economic transformation, education, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, industrialization, and national development.

Imumolen said the party endorsed him for ten reasons after looking at the administration’s performance and Nigeria’s future needs.

He noted that the first three reasons were Tinubu’s courage in making tough economic reforms, his proven leadership skills, and his commitment to ongoing development projects.

The fourth, fifth, and sixth reasons were focused on empowering the youth, ensuring generational leadership, and appointing capable individuals to key public positions.

The seventh, eighth, and ninth reasons included placing national interest above personal ambition, ensuring policy continuity, political stability, and maintaining reforms. He also highlighted transparency through the party’s early endorsement.

Imumolen stated that the tenth reason was the belief that working together for the national interest would strengthen democracy and boost national development.

“Over the last four years, I was one of those who criticized the President. However, I have also seen his leadership style and the progress his administration has made,” he said.

He added that no opposition presidential candidate, including those from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and National Democratic Congress (NDC), has a better chance than Tinubu.

Imumolen praised the administration for giving young Nigerians important positions. He said the President has shown trust in the country’s younger generation.

He noted that these appointments have opened doors for young people to make meaningful contributions to governance and national development.

“I believe President Bola Tinubu is uniquely positioned to provide a smooth transition between Nigeria’s founding democratic leadership and the new generation of leaders,” he said.

Imumolen reiterated that his political ambition has always been about serving Nigeria, not just holding office.

“My aspiration has always been to serve Nigeria and not merely to occupy political office.

“Whenever the national interest is better served through unity and collaboration, I will always choose Nigeria above personal interest,” he said.

He stressed that continuity in governance is vital for attracting investment, creating jobs, strengthening institutions, and sustaining ongoing reforms in the country.

“These are some of the reasons our party has collectively decided to support President Tinubu in the upcoming election.

“There is no hidden agenda. Our only goal is to support what we believe is good for Nigeria and secure a better future for ourselves and our children,” he said.

Imumolen explained that the party announced its endorsement ahead of the election to show transparency and provide clarity to its members and supporters.

He rejected claims that the endorsement was due to weak political structures, saying the decision was based purely on performance and national interest.

“Our party evaluates leaders based on their performance. We have looked at Mr President’s record and believe supporting him is in the national interest,” he said.

He also mentioned that the party chose not to field a presidential candidate because it believes continuity will solidify the reforms started by the Tinubu administration.

He assured supporters that the presidential endorsement would not affect Accord Party’s involvement in governorship, legislative, and other elections across the country.
