Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has opened up about how he depends on his wife’s prayers for support from President Bola Tinubu. He believes that such backing is important for ministers to succeed in their work.
Wike spoke on Tuesday at the launch of the Water Supply Network in Bwari Satellite Town, located in the Bwari Area Council.
So far, the minister said the government has officially launched 50 projects. They also plan to unveil 10 more before January.
“This is the 50th commissioning of a project. So, I’m talking about official commissioning. I’m not talking about the unofficial ones. God willing, we will commission another 10 projects before we go for campaigns next year,” he said.
Wike emphasized how critical presidential support is. He noted that his past roles as a governor and minister showed him that success in office relies heavily on the support from the President.
“I’ve told many people, I was a governor and I have been a minister before. You can be a minister… if you don’t have that support, it is hard to perform. You must have that support,” the former Rivers State governor stated.
He shared that he often asks his wife to pray for Tinubu’s ongoing support for the FCT Administration.
“And that’s why, each day I wake up, I tell my wife, she prays a lot, I don’t know how to pray very well. The best prayer I can pray is: ‘God, let me come back safely today.’
“But she prays very well. I say, ‘Continue to pray that Mr President will not look away from us.’
“And Mr President has given FCT all the support needed to change things for the better. We promise not to let Mr President down. We are grateful for the support and will keep working to ensure the people of FCT are also happy,” Wike added.
He also mentioned that good governance should improve the lives of the citizens. According to him, this is what the Tinubu administration aims to achieve.
“When people are happy, those in power will be happy. But when people are not happy, those in power will surely be unhappy. After all, what is governance? Governance is about making people happy, changing their lives for the better. And that’s what Asiwaju Tinubu is working on,” he concluded.
