Wike Calls for Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election in Abuja
Nyesom Wike calls for support for President Tinubu's re-election in 2027, emphasizing the importance of a coalition for unity and progress.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has asked residents to rally support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He believes a multi-party coalition will bring together political stakeholders from different parties.
Mr Wike shared this message on Monday at the opening of the Gwagwalada Civil Centre in Abuja. He met with political leaders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in that area.
In a statement from his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, Mr Wike said the coalition shows that the shared interests of the people are more important than personal political goals.
He encouraged Nigerians to accept the rainbow coalition as a way to promote national unity, political teamwork, and lasting development.
Mr Wike also criticized politicians who oppose the coalition. He said these politicians do not understand the importance of unity and lack the support in their own communities.
“Some greedy and selfish politicians do not understand what we call unity. They have no capacity to hold their space; they have no capacity to even hold their families, and they have no capacity to hold their communities. So they can open their mouths and say there is no Rainbow Coalition,” he stated.
He challenged critics to explain why political leaders who once disagreed cannot work together for common goals.
The minister noted that the political cooperation in Gwagwalada marks a shift from confrontation. He said the FCT needs teamwork rather than unnecessary political fights.
Mr Wike urged FCT residents not to make the same mistake they did in the 2023 general elections. He stressed the need for effective representation in the National Assembly.
He stated that the territory requires representatives who understand the issues facing residents across its six area councils and can effectively communicate their needs to the federal government.

The minister also asked for support for former FCT senator, Philip Aduda, and other candidates endorsed by the coalition. He highlighted the importance of elected officials being accessible to their constituents and aware of their concerns.
He urged residents to convert their support for Mr Tinubu into votes in the 2027 presidential election.
“On the day of the election, it will not be a day for market or fishing. It is the day all of us have decided to come together and demonstrate our strength through our votes. Go to the polling units, districts and communities and mobilise the people to vote for Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
The Gwagwalada APC chairman, Ishaku Yamawo, called the mobilization historic. He said Mr Wike’s political efforts have united leaders and politicians who were once on opposing sides.
He noted that politicians who previously did not see each other as allies because of party differences are now working together under one political umbrella in Gwagwalada.
Mr Yamawo also praised the minister for easing political tensions in the area. He said the campaign has become more peaceful and violence has decreased.
The FCT PDP chairman, Ismaila Dogara, also commended Mr Wike for his efforts and for addressing neglected projects in Gwagwalada over the past 16 years.
Mr Dogara said the presence of political leaders from different parties shows the minister’s commitment to promoting cooperation among stakeholders.
