Police in Cross River State are looking into the death of a woman found in a church toilet in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.
The woman is Blessing Ayebe. Her body was found around 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, in the toilet of a church located in the Ikot Ansa area of Calabar Municipality.
Her family raised the alarm after she went missing. On Tuesday, July 1, her daughter, Peace Ayebe, went to report the matter at the Federal Housing Police Station in Calabar.
She said her brother, Saviour Ayebe, told her their mother was missing.
ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident on Sunday in Calabar. He mentioned that the investigation is ongoing.
“The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy to determine the cause of death. No suspect has been identified or arrested at this stage, as there is presently no evidence of foul play.
“Investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated as they unfold,” ASP Eitokpah said.
According to police sources, Ayebe was at a church service on Saturday, June 28. She did not return home after the service finished.
The sources also confirmed that the investigation is still in progress.
