Yari is the Right Choice for APC Campaign Leader, Says Group

A group focused on good governance and accountability, Transparency Watch, has said that former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, deserves his new role as Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.

The group stated that Yari’s appointment shows recognition of his political experience, commitment, and contributions to the ruling party.

The PUNCH reported that the Presidency officially set up the APC Presidential Campaign Council on Saturday, naming Yari as Director-General. President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima were named Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively. Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was appointed Secretary.

In a statement from its Director of Public Affairs, Cliff Richards, on Wednesday, Transparency Watch reacted to the appointment. The group said Yari has shown enough experience in governance and party politics to manage this role.

The group said, “We are delighted to read of the appointment of Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, the senator representing Zamfara West in the National Assembly, as the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.

“For us at Transparency Watch, who have been observing the activities of Yari both as governor and senator, the appointment does not come to us as a surprise.

“It is well deserved, considering the dedication, hard work and commitment that he has brought to bear in matters of governance and party politics. We congratulate Senator Yari on this.”

Transparency Watch also praised Tinubu for trusting Yari with the campaign leadership. They see this appointment as proof of the President’s confidence in the senator.

The group added, “We also congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recognising the good works of Senator Yari. The appointment is a clear expression of the implicit confidence that Mr President reposes on Senator Yari.”

They pointed out that Yari’s political experience and connections would be important for the APC as it gets ready for the 2027 presidential election.

They stated, “We are more particularly pleased with Yari’s appointment considering the fact that mischief makers worked hard to stop him but failed in the end.

“As a man with the needed wealth of experience, political exposure and immense financial capacity, we dare say that Yari is the best man for the job. He will bring vitality and dedication to bear on the job.”

The group urged Yari’s campaign team and other APC members to support him in fulfilling his responsibilities.

“Now that Senator Yari has been recognised for his sincerity of purpose in party affairs, we urge his team to rally round him so that together, they will deliver on their assignment,” it stated.

Yari served as Zamfara governor for two terms and is currently the senator for Zamfara West Senatorial District. His new role as campaign DG comes as the APC steps up preparations for the 2027 presidential election and seeks to gather support for Tinubu’s re-election.

The campaign council includes many senior APC members. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni have been named as deputy directors-general for the campaign’s southern and northern zones.

Transparency Watch wished Yari success in his new role and encouraged him to use his experience and political connections to boost the APC’s mobilization efforts before the election.

“We wish Yari well as he strives to take his party, the APC, to the next level of political participation and electoral victory,” the group said.
