Akpabio Calls on Northern Youths to Support Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has started pushing for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He is asking young people in the North to back the government’s economic reforms and policy continuity.

Akpabio made this call on Saturday when he met with a top delegation from the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly in Abuja.

He explained that the reforms brought by Tinubu’s government, like the removal of fuel subsidies and changes to foreign exchange policies, were tough but necessary to improve the economy.

He said these policies have reached an important point and are starting to show real benefits for Nigerians.

“I stand before you not merely as a politician, but as a public servant committed to the prosperity of our nation, and particularly this vital region,” Akpabio told the youth leaders.

“The reforms initiated by President Tinubu are not abstract theories; they are concrete, courageous actions designed to dismantle long-standing structural bottlenecks and unlock Nigeria’s vast potential.”

Akpabio pointed out that removing the fuel subsidy and stabilizing the foreign exchange market were crucial steps for financial stability.

He recognized that these actions caused difficulties for many Nigerians at first but insisted they were needed to redirect funds to key areas.

“While these measures initially posed challenges, they were the surgical procedures needed to redirect resources into healthcare, education, and infrastructure,” he said.

Akpabio also mentioned that the reforms are showing early signs of success, like better revenue collection, more investor confidence, and renewed interest from foreign partners.

He encouraged Northern youths to take part in governance instead of waiting for the future to assume responsibility.

“You are architects of today, not just leaders of tomorrow,” he told the delegation.

He said the 10th National Assembly is focusing on reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.

“Your innovation and engagement are the lifeblood of these reforms,” Akpabio said.

“We urge you to be critical consumers of information and to engage in constructive dialogue.”

Akpabio’s comments come as political activities ramp up for the 2027 elections across Nigeria.

His appeal also emphasizes the need for continuous policies to support Tinubu’s second term.

Akpabio warned that dropping the current reform programme before it is fully established could wipe out the progress being made.

The spokesperson for the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan-Musa, praised Akpabio for his efforts to build political understanding between the North and the South.

“We commend the Senate President for his accessibility and his unwavering dedication to the Nigerian project,” Dan-Musa said.

“His proactive engagement has rebuilt vital bridges of trust. He has proven that true national leadership transcends ethnic and geographical boundaries.”

The group also promised to mobilize at the grassroots to inform Nigerians about the long-term benefits of the government’s economic policies.

Dan-Musa said that national unity should always come before regional interests.

“National unity is the ultimate anchor of our collective survival. No regional sentiment can take precedence over the sovereignty and peace of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

Meanwhile, the assembly identified three main areas for political action as the 2027 elections approach.

These include ongoing consultations with Northern youth groups, grassroots education on federal fiscal policies, and a firm commitment to national unity.

The coalition said that federal leaders must show respect and be open in talks with Northern youth organizations.

They also promised to launch awareness campaigns to explain the government’s economic policies to rural areas.

The group noted that this engagement is crucial to fight misinformation and help Nigerians understand the effects of the reforms.
