Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged All Progressives Congress leaders and members in the state to stay united. He wants them to fully support President Bola Tinubu's re-election in the 2027 general election.

Oyebanji spoke at an APC stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Ado Ekiti on Monday. During the meeting, he announced the formation of an eight-member committee led by Chief Alaba Abejide. This committee will handle preparations for the party’s ward, local government, and state congresses set for September this year.

The governor said these congresses are important for the party's plans for the local government polls in December and for the 2027 elections. He expressed trust in Abejide’s ability to lead the committee well.

He called on the stakeholders to promote unity and inclusiveness to strengthen the party at the grassroots level. He said, "Once again I appeal to us all that we need to give our best to our President, he has been so good to us, he has been extremely supportive and this is the only opportunity to say thank you."

Oyebanji praised party leaders and members for their teamwork that led to their victory in the June 20 governorship election. He stressed that the congresses should be organized to set the party up for wins in future elections beyond 2030.

He stated, "We have broken the jinx of consecutive tenure; we have to break another jinx when I leave in 2030: another APC person must emerge, and the foundation for that is these congresses."

The governor added, "This congress has implications for a lot of things; it has implications for the local government election in December, it has implications for the presidential and the national and state assembly in January and February respectively."

He continued, "We have a tradition that has worked for us, and that is what we are still going to follow. The leaders must do everything to ensure that we have a strong party that will, in another four years, produce another governor."

Earlier, the APC State Chairman, Sola Elesin, congratulated Oyebanji on his re-election. He also praised party leaders and members for their hard work, which he said was key to their victory on June 20.

Elesin encouraged the party to keep the momentum going by ensuring a large turnout of voters in future elections. He emphasized that "the party must remain focused and committed to mobilising the electorate particularly ahead of the 2027 general election."

Former governor Segun Oni highlighted the need for all stakeholders to adjust their plans and boost their mobilization efforts for the upcoming presidential election.

Oni asked stakeholders to "focus on increasing voter turnout by deepening grassroots engagement and ensuring that supporters are adequately mobilised to participate in the election."

Others at the event included the Deputy Governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, Secretary to the State Government, Prof Habibat Adubiaro, Chief of Staff, Niyi Adebayo, and various party leaders from across the state.
