Akwa Ibom lawmaker raises alarm over flooding in his area

Alphonsus Odudoh, a federal lawmaker from Akwa Ibom State, is sounding the alarm about flooding in his constituency.

Mr Odudoh represents Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

During a session on Wednesday in Abuja, he spoke under a motion of urgent national importance. He listed the serious damage to property and lives from the flooding since the rainy season started. He urged the federal government to step in and help.

He expressed concern about the destruction caused by this natural disaster. He called for an urgent response from the right government agencies.

Odudoh said Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency is entirely flooded. Many people in the area have been displaced.

Unyime Idem, who represents Oruk Anam/Ukanafun Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom, supported the motion. He said it was important to save lives.

Mr Idem asked for immediate help from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to reduce the effects of the flooding and assist the victims.

Mark Esset, who represents Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom, also urged his colleagues to back the motion. He pointed out that his own constituency was also affected by the flood and needed urgent attention.

He said supporting the motion fits with the government’s main job of protecting lives and property.

The Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, who was in charge of the session, sent the motion to the committee on NEMA and other relevant committees for further action.
