The Edo South senatorial candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, Don-Pax Osifo, said on Tuesday that the party will surprise other political groups by winning the district and other areas in the 2027 elections.

Osifo spoke to journalists at the Benin Airport. Thousands of PDP supporters welcomed him before a roadshow to the city center. He urged party members to unite and work together for victory in the upcoming election.

Osifo was joined by the Edo South Senatorial Chairman, Osaro Iselemon. He noted that the primary election is finished. He encouraged everyone to set aside their differences and prepare as one for the election.

He emphasized that if he is elected, his main focus will be tackling insecurity and improving the infrastructure in the district.

Osifo repeated that the primary election is over. He said party members should unite and prepare for the election.

He said, “This election is not about me. It is about that graduate on the streets of Benin aspiring for great opportunities; it is for that trader on the streets of Benin doing everything on a daily basis to see how to feed their families, and for that farmer investing time and other resources to ensure that the communities of Edo South are fed. It is about people who believe that it is time for us to take a transformative step to ensure that the emancipation of our people is achieved.

“There are infrastructural deficits in the zone, and security challenges impede our farmers from going to the farm. Though the legislative business is to see how we create laws to better the lives of our people, you can also sponsor bills that guarantee the security of our people in order for them to carry on their businesses and go to farms.

“I am a bridge builder. We are not at war. We have done the primaries; we all have to come together to win the election.”

In addition, Iselemon mentioned that the large crowd that welcomed the candidate in Benin less than 24 hours after his emergence shows that the party is set to win the election.

He added, “You can see the crowd that greeted the arrival of our candidate despite the less than 24 hours’ notice. This shows that Edo State is PDP. We are hopeful, and we believe in the strength of the PDP. We can mobilise our people and win the election.”
