Lagos Driver Avoids Jail After NDLEA Finds Drugs in Drink Package

A Lagos driver was almost jailed after NDLEA discovered drugs in a drink package. The agency warns the public to avoid accepting unknown parcels.

Lagos Driver Avoids Jail After NDLEA Finds Drugs in Drink Package

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has warned commercial drivers and the public not to carry parcels they cannot identify. This comes after a bus driver almost faced charges due to a package filled with cocaine and methamphetamine.

Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the agency, shared details on his X page on Sunday. He explained that the driver received a bottle of Fearless energy drink as a waybill package in Lagos. The driver was supposed to deliver it to Ondo State.

Babafemi said the driver thought it was just an energy drink. However, NDLEA operatives later found that the bottle was used to hide illegal drugs, specifically cocaine and methamphetamine.

The driver spent some time in custody and could have been jailed. He was saved because the officers tracked down and arrested the person who gave him the package. Sharing a video with the post, Babafemi said, “When they say don’t judge a book by its cover, it’s for a reason. A commercial bus driver spent some time in custody and would have ended in jail because he assumed a bottle of Fearless energy drink given him as a waybill package in Lagos to deliver in Ondo State actually contains energy drink.”

Babafemi noted that the driver was lucky. He warned that others might not be as fortunate. “Your own case may be devoid of such luck and you go in for it,” he added.

The NDLEA spokesman urged drivers and parcel deliverers to avoid taking packages they cannot check. “Please avoid taking parcels you don’t know its content because possession makes you culpable, that’s the law,” he said.
