NDC to unveil campaign team and financial report on Monday

The Nigeria Democratic Congress will reveal its National Campaign Council for the 2027 elections on Monday. They will also share their financial statement during their third National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.

The party plans to present certificates of return to its candidates for the presidential, National Assembly, governorship, and state Houses of Assembly elections.

The meeting is set for 10am at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja.

Osa Director, the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, announced this in a statement on Saturday.

"A major highlight of the meeting will be the release and presentation of the party’s Statement of Account by the National Treasurer. This shows our commitment to transparency and accountability.

"We challenge other political parties, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress, to match our openness in managing their finances. For the NDC, it is no longer politics as usual," he said.

Director discussed the party’s financial situation. He said their resources would be stronger but for the economic hardship many Nigerians face, which he blamed on the APC-led government.

He claimed that around 80 percent of the party’s candidates could not afford the Expression of Interest forms due to poverty, hunger, and deprivation in the country.

"Our finances would have been better. But, contrary to what people say, and due to the level of poverty, hunger, and deprivation caused by the directionless APC and their confusing economic policies, about 80 percent of our candidates could not afford the Expression of Interest forms.

"The party had to give forms to such candidates for free," he said.

The statement noted that the campaign council will cover all candidates running for the presidency, National Assembly, governorship, and state legislative positions. The unveiling will help strengthen the party’s campaign structures before the elections.

"The NDC is fired up and ready to give Nigerians the leadership they deserve. A New Nigeria is Possible. We can do it!" the statement added.

This unveiling comes after the council’s inauguration was postponed from October 20.

The party said the postponement was due to the tight schedule of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and an important commitment abroad. The new date is now October 26, along with the NEC meeting, where the party is expected to make important decisions about preparations for the 2027 elections.

Moses Cleopas, the party’s National Chairman, previously dismissed claims that the NDC was inactive or divided. He insisted that the leadership remains committed to the Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket.

Cleopas said the National Working Committee has had several meetings since August and submitted proposals on the formation of the campaign council for the party leadership to consider.
