The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced that it will send a special Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom. This team will help Nigerians living in the UK to process and get their passports more easily.
In a statement on Sunday, the NIS shared the news on its official X page. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, ordered this intervention, which will start on 10 August 2026.
The statement said, "As part of ongoing efforts to further ease and streamline passport applications for Nigerians in the diaspora, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has directed the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, to deploy a dedicated Passport Intervention Team from the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters to the United Kingdom."
The team will work closely with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK. They will help process pending, new, and renewal passport applications.
The NIS mentioned that the team would travel to various cities in the UK. This will allow eligible applicants to enroll for passports without needing to go to a central place.
The intervention is open to those with pending applications, first-time applicants, and anyone whose passport has less than one year before it expires and wants to renew it.
The immigration service advised applicants to bring their completed forms and proof of payment when they come for enrollment.
Schedule
The NIS said it would share more details about the schedule for the exercise. This includes the cities they will visit, dates, venues, and enrollment times.
They advised applicants not to go to any location until the official schedule is announced. The service also encouraged Nigerians in the UK to check the Nigerian High Commission's official channels for updates.
The NIS made it clear that all digital passport application options will still be available during this intervention. The Contactless Passport Application System will keep running, and the home-delivery service will also be there for applicants.
The service stated that this intervention is part of ongoing efforts to make passport applications easier for Nigerians abroad.
