Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has announced plans to organize a youth football tournament to support President Bola Tinubuās 2027 re-election campaign.
Martins shared this news during an interview with TVC on Thursday.
He called the tournament the āRenewed Hope youth tournamentā and said it will take place in November.
āThereās a tournament that Iām doing for His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu that Iām doing for his campaign, the Renewed Hope Youth tournament, and Iām doing it with geopolitical zones, which is six, and Iām adding two to three more teams with it,ā Martins said.
The former Inter Milan and Newcastle United forward mentioned that this initiative is meant to create chances for young Nigerians.
āIām just happy to do it for the president with all his hard work and all that. And that is not just for the president, itās for the Nigerians and the Nigerian youth as well; how we can help them,ā he said.
Martins confirmed he will be funding the tournament himself and reiterated that it would happen in November.
āYes, Iām doing it in November,ā he said when asked if he would finance the tournament himself.
āRenewed Hopeā was the campaign slogan for Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima during the 2023 presidential election.
Since then, the administration has used the phrase for various government programs and initiatives. Political groups supporting Tinubuās 2027 re-election effort have also embraced it in their mobilization activities.
