Photos: Peter Obi Meets Obasanjo

Peter Obi met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday. This meeting comes as discussions grow about Obasanjo’s political role before the 2027 general elections.

Obi’s campaign photographer, Esther Umoh, shared photos from the meeting on X.

Umoh wrote, "Earlier today, the presidential candidate of the NDC, Peter Obi, met with former president Olusegun Obasanjo."

The pictures show Obi in a blue traditional outfit and Obasanjo in a white native dress and a blue patterned cap. A Catholic bishop was also present during parts of the meeting. Some photos were taken outside, while others were indoors.

As of now, neither Obi nor Obasanjo has shared details about their discussions.

This meeting happens just days after new controversy arose over Obasanjo’s political stance related to the 2027 presidential election.

A group called the Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum accused the former president of secretly supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. They claim he is backing opposition figures publicly.

However, Akin Osuntokun, Obasanjo’s former Political Adviser, rejected this accusation. He said that Obasanjo was important in creating the presidential ticket of Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who will run as Obi’s vice president.

In an interview on ARISE Television, Osuntokun stated that Obasanjo is still a main supporter of the opposition alliance.

"If you can say that Obasanjo is supporting any ticket, it is the Peter Obi-Kwankwaso ticket. As a matter of fact, he is the principal sponsor of that ticket," he said.

The recent meeting between Obi and Obasanjo is likely to increase speculation about Obasanjo’s role in ongoing discussions among opposition parties before the 2027 elections. No official statement has been released regarding the purpose of Wednesday’s visit.
