The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a woman named Rabi Abubakar in Daba Village. She is accused of scalding her pregnant co-wife. The victim's baby died after the attack.
The police shared this information in a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib. The statement was posted on their official Facebook page on Friday.
According to the PPRO, police from the ‘C’ Division in Tafawa Balewa Estate, Bauchi, got the report about the incident. This happened in Bauchi Local Government Area on July 22.
The statement said, “In a report received on 22nd July 2026 at about 08:00 hours from the Officer In-Charge, Dabe Police Outstation, Soro Division, it was alleged that on 17th July, 2026 at about 07:30 hours, the suspect poured boiled water on her 30-year-old co-wife, who lives at the same address, during a domestic fight.
“After the incident, the victim was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi for treatment. While there, and despite being heavily pregnant at the time of the attack, the victim gave birth to a baby boy on 19th July, 2026.
“Sadly, the newborn had serious burn injuries and died on the same day. The victim is currently stable and responding to treatment. After receiving the report, police officers went to the scene. They later found and arrested the suspect, who confessed to the crime during questioning.”
The PPRO added that the suspect is now in custody. The case will be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc, strongly condemns this act. He assures the public that the command will ensure a thorough prosecution of the case. He also encourages citizens to seek peaceful ways to resolve disputes and to report any domestic violence cases to the police for quick action,” the statement concluded.
