Two Suspects Arrested Over Deaths of Children in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police have arrested two people linked to the deaths of two children in the Alkaleri and Ganjuwa local government areas.

The police spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, shared this news in a statement on Monday. He mentioned that the suspects were caught in separate cases involving a boy and a five-year-old girl.

The first case happened on October 16, 2026. A boy reportedly drank a drink given to him by his stepmother, Fatima Ibrahim, who is 23 years old and lives in Kwaimawa village.

Habib stated that the boy started vomiting soon after drinking the beverage. He was rushed to the Primary Health Care Centre in Kwaimawa, then taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe for better treatment.

The boy struggled for eight days but sadly died on October 24. "After the Village Head of Kwaimawa reported the incident, detectives moved quickly and arrested the suspect. She is now in custody as the investigation continues," the statement said.

In another case, the police reported that a five-year-old girl was found dead in a water pit in Badaromo village on October 24. Her grandfather had reported her missing to the police around 7 pm on October 23, which led to a search by local residents.

The search ended in sadness when they discovered the girl’s body in a small water pit behind the village around 7 am the next day. "After receiving the report, police from Soro Division secured the scene and arrested Sadiku Musa, 19, who lives nearby, in connection with this terrible act," the statement added.

The police said both cases are now with the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for detailed investigations.

The State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, called the incidents heartbreaking and inhumane. He assured the families of the lost children that the police will seek justice.

"These are innocent souls. Children who depended on adults for safety. We will make sure that justice is served for Habiba and Mubarak," the commissioner promised.

He also expressed his condolences to the grieving families. He urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to pay more attention to the safety of children.
