The Abia State Police have confirmed the strange death of five family members in Umuimo, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area.

The victims are Mr Kachi Nnabugwu, his wife Chinaza, and their three children. They were found dead in their house on Tuesday after no one had seen them for several days.

On Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident. She said the deceased's brother reported the situation to the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters.

Chinaka explained, "Yes, the attention of the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters was drawn to the incident on July 22, 2026, by the brother of the deceased, who reported that after being unable to reach Kachi Nnabugwu, they proceeded to his residence at Umuimo Village, Osisioma LGA."

She continued, "Upon arrival, repeated knocks yielded no response. They subsequently forced entry into the house, where they discovered the lifeless and decomposing bodies of their brother and his family."

Detectives have visited the scene and started investigations. Chinaka added, "The crime scene has been visited. A preliminary visual inspection of the bodies was conducted, and photographs taken."

She mentioned, "The corpses have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy. Investigation is ongoing."

Residents said the family was last seen on Saturday, July 18. Concern grew when no one heard from them for a while.

It was reported that neighbours, along with other community members, forced the door open after trying to contact the family without success. Sadly, they found the five bodies inside the house.

Sources said they found containers of leftover food and a generator inside during the search. The bodies were later taken away and placed in a mortuary.

Meanwhile, a video on social media showed community members performing traditional rites after the discovery. The reason for the deaths is still unclear.

Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing to find out what caused the deaths.
