Segilola Resources Supports Host Communities with Minibuses and Skills Training

Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), a part of Thor Explorations Ltd. and the operator of Nigeria’s first large-scale gold mine, has given out nine commercial minibuses. This is part of the second phase of its Youth Empowerment Transport Scheme. They also provided business support to people in their host communities as part of the 2026 Youth Empowerment Programme.

This second phase follows the success of the first phase. It shows SROL’s commitment to giving more people in its host communities chances to earn a steady income. In this phase, SROL gave three minibuses each to beneficiaries from Iperindo, Odo-Ijesha, and Imogbara. These vehicles will help the beneficiaries start their own transport businesses. This will help them make a living and boost economic activity in their areas.

Apart from the minibuses, SROL also offered business support to beneficiaries from earlier editions of the Youth Empowerment Programme. From Imogbara community, Kayode Temitope, who works with aluminium, received a generator to help improve his productivity. He had earlier received equipment under the 2025 Youth Empowerment Programme. Akinrotimi Seun Michael, a cobbler from Iperindo, also got materials and a filing machine after finishing vocational training under the 2023 programme. This will help him increase his production and grow his business.

During the handover ceremony, Sikiru Haruna, an engineer and Mines Manager at SROL, spoke about the company’s goal to empower host communities through lasting initiatives. He said, “At Segilola Resources Operating Limited, we believe lasting community development begins with investing in people. Through our Youth Empowerment Programme, we are equipping members of our host communities with the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to build sustainable businesses, improve their livelihoods, and contribute meaningfully to the economic development of their communities. Our commitment is to create opportunities that continue to deliver value long after today’s intervention.”

James Adejugbagbe, who is a beneficiary of the second phase of SROL’s Youth Empowerment Transport Scheme, shared his gratitude. He said, “Receiving this vehicle is a life-changing opportunity for me and my family. It gives me a reliable means of earning a living and the confidence to build a sustainable business. The Youth Empowerment Programme is part of SROL’s Community Development Agreement (CDA). Through this agreement, the company collaborates with host communities to run projects that encourage sustainable livelihoods and economic development. By investing in business development and livelihood opportunities, SROL aims to strengthen local economies and create lasting benefits in its host communities in Osun State.
