The Bauchi State Police have arrested seven suspects linked to a violent clash that killed two people in Dass Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, shared this news in a statement on Saturday. He said the suspects are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, and culpable homicide.
Habib explained that the trouble started on September 4, 2026, around 6 PM. Ibrahim El-Safwan, also known as Jabala’i, allegedly teamed up with others to attack Abdulrahman Nuru, a 29-year-old tricycle rider, in the Tudun Wus area of Dass.
The police report says Nuru, who was from the Bundot area of Dass, suffered multiple stab wounds from cutlasses.
The statement detailed, "Preliminary investigation revealed that on the said date at about 1800hrs, one Ibrahim El-Safwan, aka Jabala’i, of Bayan Fada area, Dass, criminally conspired with his accomplices, intercepted and brutally attacked one Abdulrahman Nuru, 29 years old, a tricycle rider of Bundot area, Dass, stabbing him with cutlasses on various parts of his body at Tudun Wus area, Dass."
After the attack, officers from the Dass Division quickly went to the scene after getting reports. They found that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps had taken the victim's tricycle and captured one suspect.
Nuru was rushed to the General Hospital, Dass, where doctors confirmed he had died.
Following this, there was panic in the area as youths from Bundot gathered in large numbers, armed with cutlasses and other weapons. They moved to the Bayan Fada area for what seemed like a revenge attack.
This led to a violent clash between the two groups near the Dass Central Motor Park. Habib said, "During the violent confrontation, another victim, one Mukhtar Jibrin, 38 years old, of Bayan Fada area, was stabbed. He was rushed to the General Hospital, Dass, and later referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was also confirmed dead."
The police acted quickly to calm the situation and arrested seven suspects involved in the clash. The suspects are Umar Abubakar, 20, from Bayan Fada; Blus Garba, 19; Adamu Muhammad, 17; Hussaini Danjuma, 17; Hassan Danjuma, 17; Shuaibu Sani, 17; and Aliyu Abdullahi, 18, all from Bundot area of Dass.
Habib mentioned that they are still trying to catch other suspects who have escaped.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killings. He called for a thorough investigation into what happened. Aliyu urged the people of Dass to stay calm and law-abiding and to not take the law into their own hands. He assured them that those responsible would face justice.
